Research Interests

Astonishing morphological variation can be witnessed in vertebrates. How did this morphological diversity evolve? Why does each species have its unique form? What is the functional significance of form? To tackle these central issues in biology, we conduct our research from the stand point of comparative anatomy and evolutionary biology. Not only employing classic methods of comparative anatomy, but also three dimensional shape analysis, biomechanical analysis, statistical analysis and oversea field programs are employed at our lab. Furthermore, with the aim of the re-establishment of "natural history" in Japan, we are actively collecting dead bodies of various animals.
