Welcome to the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology
The Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology, Department of Global Agricultural Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo, is contributing to various problems all over the world by creating plants and crops with new functions through biotechnology techniques.
We aim to develop edible vaccines, hairy roots for environmental purification, resistant crops which can grow in soil with poor conditions and crops suitable for low-input agriculture.
To develop new plants with these new functions, we also conduct research on basic topics, such as the nutrient absorption mechanism of plants.
Together with the establishment of the Department of Global Agricultural Sciences, the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology was also newly established in 1997.
